Hand-off note from #695: the fix commit this PR waits for already exists as 329ac411 (fix(ir): a call of a default is not sent to the slot of the default it replaces, a continue in memberInValue via isShadowedBy in compiler/src/ir/witness.trb), kept on branch loop/705-fix-candidate (it sits on the old tensor branch, so cherry-pick only the commit); cherry-pick it once the test-only head is shown red. #695 is a draft that depends on this PR.

Rebased the test-only head onto main (it was behind and not mergeable; clean rebase, new head cd4125b7). Blocker: CI on this head must show default-shadow red (tier A) before I cherry-pick the fix 329ac411 from loop/705-fix-candidate; owner: orion (loop/705). Stays draft, no review request until the fix commit is on the branch.
